Neoprene O-Rings:  

The first synthetic rubber developed commercially, introduced in 1931, exhibits generally good ozone, aging and chemical resistance. It has good mechanical properties over a wide temperature range. Vulcanizates of chloroprene display little significant change after prolonged outdoor exposure. Because of its chlorine content, flame resistance is superior to that of most other rubbers. Neoprene vulcanizates, especially O-Rings, sometimes exhibit distortion due to crystallization of the rubber at room temperature. This effect can be completely reversed by warming the parts in low heat. Neoprene is especially well suited to rubber-to-metal bonding.

Chemical Resistance:

  • Paraffin base mineral oil with low DPI, e.g. ASTM oil No. 1
  • Silicone oil and grease
  • Water and water solvents at low temperatures
  • Refrigerants
  • Freon, 113, 114, 114B2, 13, 22, 31, 32, 502 (F22+F316), C318, and TF
  • Ammonia
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Improved ozone, weathering and aging resistance compared with nitrile rubber.

Limited Compatibility:

  • Naphthalene based mineral oil (IRM 902 and IRM 903 oils)
  • Low molecular aliphatic hydrocarbons (propane, butane, fuel)
  • Glycol based brake fluids.

Not Compatible With:

  • Aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene)
  • Chlorine, Wet
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons (trichloroethylene)
  • Brake Fluid
  • Gasoline
  • Polar solvents (ketones, esters, ethers, acetones).

Operating temperature: -40° to +225°F
