Food and Beverage O-RingsFood, Dairy & Water; FDA and 3-A Sanitary O-Rings

The O-Ring Store LLC is meeting the needs of businesses in the food and beverage industry. We have the parts in stock that customers need to meet FDA requirements and ensure food safety and integrity. Metal detectable materials are commonly used by food and beverage manufacturing companies to safeguard against contamination.

FDA-Compliant O-Rings

The O-Ring Store LLC understands the importance of FDA compliance when it comes to rubber seals used in various industries, particularly in the food and pharmaceutical sectors. Our FDA O-Rings are specially formulated to meet the stringent requirements set by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). While the FDA's jurisdiction is limited to the United States, its regulations are widely recognized and adopted as international control standards.

According to the FDA code, rubber articles intended for repeated use can be safely employed in the production, manufacturing, packing, processing, preparing, treating, packaging, transporting, or holding of food, subject to certain provisions. The FDA manages a comprehensive list of materials and chemicals that are approved for contact with foods through its Codes of Federal Regulations.

It is important to note that the FDA does not directly "approve" products according to CFR 21.177.2600, which specifically addresses rubber articles intended for repeated use. Instead, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the finished FDA rubber product to demonstrate compliance and issue an FDA certificate. This certificate serves as evidence that the material used meets the necessary FDA requirements.

It is worth mentioning that while a component may be made from an FDA-approved rubber material suitable for food contact, it does not automatically certify the part's technical suitability for its intended application. Different classes of rubber articles exist for dry foods, aqueous foods, and fatty foods, each with specific considerations.

At The O-Ring Store LLC, we work closely with our manufacturers to supply you with the FDA-compliant products that meet your application requirements. If you require certification or any other documentation, please inform us at the time of placing your order, and we will ensure your needs are met.

Silicone O-Rings (VMQ) 70 Duro FDA

Silicone O-RIngs are a popular choice for food and drug applications due to its odorless and tasteless properties. It does not produce any unwanted flavors or aromas that could affect the quality of the food. Additionally, silicone can be effectively sterilized in a cleanroom environment, making it a safe and hygienic choice for the food industry. With working temperatures ranging from -75°F to +400°F, silicone remains durable even in extreme temperature conditions.

Buna-N Nitrile O-Rings (NBR) 70 Duro FDA - Black & White

Nitrile, also known as Buna-N, is an FDA grade material recognized for its excellent abrasion resistance and high tensile strength. These properties make nitrile O-rings well-suited for applications involving oil or fatty contact, as well as harsh environments. Nitrile compounds can withstand extreme temperatures, ranging from -40°F to +250°F, ensuring their reliability over extended periods of time.

Ethylene Propylene O-Rings (EPDM) 70D FDA - Black

Ethylene-propylene, or EPDM, is a rubber material composed of odorless and tasteless compounds that offer exceptional chemical resistance. EPDM O-rings can withstand a wide temperature range, from -65°F to +300°F. When compounded using peroxide curing agents, EPDM provides high-temperature resistance, reaching up to +350°F. These qualities make EPDM a smart choice for steam processing food grade applications.

Ethylene Propylene O-Rings (EPDM) 70D FDA / NSF61

Normally used with foods, water, steam applications, phosphate ester type hydraulic fluids, brake fluids and offer great resistance to ozone and weathering. Peroxide Cured EPDM FDA/NSF-61 are Chloramine Resistant and have better chemical and chloramine resistance than sulfur cured compounds. EPDM's are not used with petroleum oils or fuels because significant swelling would result.

Viton®/FKM O-Rings 75 Duro FDA & 3A Sanitary - Brown

Fluorocarbon, also known as Viton®, is an excellent universal O-Ring material due to its high temperature and chemical resistance. Low temperature resistance is normally not favorable and for static applications is limited to approximately –15°F (–26°C) although in certain situations it is suitable down to –40°F (–40°C). Under dynamic conditions, the lowest service temperature is between 5°F and 0°F (–15°C and –18°C). Gas permeability is very low and similar to that of butyl rubber.. They do not absorb water, allowing for effective sealing without excessive swelling. Fluorocarbon O-rings are widely used in FDA grade applications, thanks to their desirable properties.
