500' Spool of Neoprene (Chloroprene, CR)  O-Ring Cord

Cord stock is O-Ring material, ready to be cut to create custom size O-Rings. There is a large selection of cross-sections available, and can be cut to any length you need or in standard put up lengths.

How to calculate O-ring cord length needed:

( ( OD + ID ) / 2 ) x Pi = length
Pi = 3.14159

Inside Diameter (ID) = Outside Diameter (OD) - twice the cross section (C/S)
ID = OD - (2 x C/S)

Make your own O-rings with O-ring Cord and O-ring Glue. How To Make an O-ring:

To calculate the correct length of cord required, (( OD + ID ) / 2 ) x Pi = Length. This will then give the correct length of cord required. Using the splicing aid and a very sharp knife. make a cut in the material at a right angle. All surfaces to be glued must be free of oil or grease. Avoid touching the surfaces. A thin layer of Cyanoacrylate Adhesive O-ring Glue should be spread over one side of the cut. A thin layer provides the best results. In order to join the two sides cleanly, use the V section on the splicing aid. Match both surfaces together and press firmly for 15 seconds. The glue must dry for 60 seconds before mounting the O-ring.

Neoprene (Chloroprene, CR)

Chloroprene (commonly known as "Neoprene") is one of the oldest synthetic elastomers, introduced in 1931.  Neoprene exhibits generally good ozone, aging and chemical resistance. It has good mechanical properties over a wide temperature range.

Heat Resistance:

  • Up to approximately 250°F (121°C).

Cold Flexibility:

  • Down to approximately –40°F (–40°C).

Chemical Resistance:

  • Paraffin base mineral oil with low DPI, e.g. ASTM oil No. 1
  • Silicone oil and grease
  • Water and water solvents at low temperatures
  • Refrigerants
  • Freon, 113, 114, 114B2, 13, 22, 31, 32, 502 (F22+F316), C318, and TF
  • Ammonia
  • Carbon dioxide
  • Improved ozone, weathering and aging resistance compared with nitrile rubber.

Limited Compatibility:

  • Naphthalene based mineral oil (IRM 902 and IRM 903 oils)
  • Low molecular aliphatic hydrocarbons (propane, butane, fuel)
  • Glycol based brake fluids.

Not Compatible With:

  • Aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene)
  • Chlorine, Wet
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons (trichloroethylene)
  • Brake Fluid
  • Gasoline
  • Polar solvents (ketones, esters, ethers, acetones).
