Vulcanized EPDM O-Rings - Tank O-Rings

About EPDM O-Rings / Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer

EPDM O-Rings have a great acceptance in the sealing world because of its excellent resistance to heat, water and steam, alkali, mild acidic and oxygenated solvents, ozone, and sunlight (UV). These compounds also withstand the effect of brake fluids and Skydrol® and other phosphate ester-based hydraulic fluids. Great for pool o-rings, sea water, water tanks, air, outdoor applications, steam (up to 300°F/150°C), hot water, direct sunlight/UV, silicone oils and greases, dilute acids, ketones, and alkalis. It also makes an excellent electrical insulator. EPDM compounds are not recommended for gasoline, petroleum oil and grease, and hydrocarbon environments.

Vulcanization is a heating and molecular bonding process—profile ends are fused together using heat, rubber adhesive, pressure, and time to chemically bond the joint, creating a continuous seal. Vulcanization causes the polymer chains in rubber to become crosslinked. The polymer chains can no longer move independently, which allows the material to stretch under stress and return to original form when the pressure is released. This results in a stronger, more stable seal suitable for a wider range of applications.
